Our Vision
A Different Kind of Dental Practice Is Coming to Richmond
Richmond deserves a dental practice that provides true evidence-based dentistry facts backed by research. That means explaining the reasoning behind every treatment plan, recommending only what’s actually necessary, and building a relationship that’s still working well for your smile 10, 15, 20 years from now. That’s the practice Dr. Allison Tran and Dr. Steven Christofakis set out to build.
Toothology was designed from scratch: 15 operatories, in-house sedation, and a full-service offering that covers everything from your first cleaning to a complete smile transformation. The two doctors who built it are credentialed at the highest level in their respective areas of expertise, and the one question that drives every decision in this practice is a simple one: is this treatment good for this patient’s long-term health? If the answer is anything less than yes, the plan changes.
The name Toothology is exactly what it sounds like. A commitment to the science of teeth, the craft of smile design, and the kind of careful, evidence-based thinking that most patients have never experienced in a dental chair. We built this for the people of Richmond, and we’re almost ready to open the doors.

Dr. Allison Tran
DDS, AFAAID
Dr. Tran’s story begins far from Richmond, in a Vietnamese refugee camp, where she was raised amidst challenging circumstances. Despite these early obstacles, Dr. Tran has risen to become a beacon of hope and an embodiment of perseverance. Her remarkable path led her to complete her dental education at UNC Chapel Hill School of Dentistry, a top dental school in the world.
She is a member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and the American Academy of General Dentistry, where she is eagerly awaiting her Fellowship Award with the Academy of General Dentists in June 2026—a prestigious accolade achieved by only 6% of dentists in the US and Canada. She has earned over 500 CE credits in implant dentistry and went through a rigorous written and oral exam to be an expert in the dental implant as an Associate Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry.
Giving Back
At the core of Dr. Tran’s philosophy is a deep-seated desire to give back. She generously donates to The UNC Foundation, sponsoring dental students’ international travel to provide care for those in need—a mission close to her heart, having participated in three international dental trips during her time at UNC. Dr. Tran also supports La Ola Orphanage in Mexico, contributing to the empowerment and education of young girls, including one who is now completing her dental school education.
Dr. Steven Christofakis
DDS
Dr. Christofakis graduated from the University of Mary Washington with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He then attended graduate school at Virginia Commonwealth University and earned his Master of Science in Physiology with a thesis in head and neck cancer research. After obtaining his Doctor of Dental Surgery from New York University’s College of Dentistry, one of the most prestigious dental schools in the country, he completed a 2-year general practice residency at Virginia Commonwealth University and the Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Administration Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. There, he developed skills of surgical technique in the fields of Periodontics, Implant Placement, and Endodontics, as well as earned his certification in Anesthesia.
His dedication to patient care earned him recognition as a Top Dentist in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. He has recently relocated back to Richmond, VA to be closer to family, where he enjoys an active lifestyle including playing sports, instruments, and traveling, and is eagerly awaiting the arrival of his daughter, Penelope.
